The Republican Hindu Coalition held its public launch at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, convening a powerful group of Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, alongside Senators Rob Portman, Kelly Ayotte, and Ron Johnson.
RHC founder Shalabh "Shalli" Kumar, a Chicago-based businessman, pledged to personally donate at least $2 million to Republican candidates in 2016, with the coalition aiming to give at least $10 million to GOP candidates over the cycle. Influential House members, including Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions and Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce, also attended.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, honorary chairman of the RHC, entered the ballroom with Kumar and told the audience that launching an organization like the RHC could change history. Kumar designed the coalition to mobilize Indian Americans into an influential conservative force and to strengthen business and strategic ties between India and the United States.
